The jury for REFORM Design Biennale 2018 is:
Line Kjær from Munkeruphus Line is an art historian and curator specialised in contemporary art. She is director of the exhibition space Munkeruphus – the former home of Danish designer and hybrid artist Gunnar Aagaard Andersen.
“I hope to be seduced and surprised. I hope to see contributions that defy simple classification, that explore new materials and challenge preconceived ideas about design. My wish is to see creators searching and reaching new freedoms of expression by blurring and investigating the distinction between art and design, sculpture and furniture.”
Jill Singer & Monica Khemsurov from Sight Unseen The two women are running the New York City-based online magazine Sight Unseen – a design platform focused on what is new and what is next in design and visual arts.
“We’re looking for the same thing that we look for on Sight Unseen – designs that are intelligent, beautiful, and well resolved both conceptually and materially. You can’t have the concept without the execution or vice versa.”
Erik Lundh from Källemo Along with his sister Erik Lundh is head of the furniture company Källemo, who collaborates with top Scandinavian artists and designers.
“I always seek what feels sincere. It is appealing to me, when I feel that the designer has had a certain design challenge to overcome, regardless if it is commercial or not. This will usually result in an interesting outcome.”
To REFORM is the action or process of making changes. Changes within a number of different areas. REFORM strives to investigate and challenge:
PROCESS Rethink the process from idea to end product. Invent new methods for production or for thinking. Explore other sciences and knowledges.
FUNCTION Challenge function and use. Create new function or rethink the existing. Examine the concept of function.
MATERIAL Experiment with material and the capacity of it. Invent new or question old. Revolutionize the inherent potential.
FORM Investigate form and physique. Dare to reform lines and details and evolve compositions and expressions.
CONCEPT Question the concept. Wonder, provoke and search the boundaries within design and craft in order to rethink an abstraction.
REFORM 18 will open in June 2018 at Munkeruphus, where one of the twentieth century’s most versatile and innovative artistis, Gunnar Aagaard Andersen, lived and worked.
Kindly supported by DANISH ARTS FOUNDATION and in collaboration with Sight Unseen, Källemo & Munkeruphus
