LED technique has a very characteristic look with a graphical expression of the linear and thin components combined with the sculptural presence of the aluminium cooler. It is exactly this contemporary and new look of the LED parts we do not want to hide, but instead want to play with and to highlight in a relevant and exciting new way. Today LED illuminants are an extremely slimmed version of conventional light sources, such as light bulbs. It is almost as if they appear without a physical existence. As designers we find it interesting to create, shape and obtain an interesting object, which enters into a new dialogue with the incorporated LED parts.
Materials: Acrylic, high-power LED, aluminium cooler, cable and converter
Dimensions Slim block: 200 x 180 x 95 mm Thick block: 160 x 144 x 125 mm
To us REFORM is like a cocoon protected from the usual pragmatism of the industrial design market. It offers an interesting opportunity to work on a design project with more focus on innovative material and technology, whilst being free to express a more subjective narrative.
Consequently the results will be more process driven and will reveal more experimental statements in terms of product typology and materialization. Being part of REFORM means participating in a program, which actively promotes inspiration and originality.
GECKELER MICHELS is a Berlin-based design duo formed by David Geckeler and Frank Michels. The two designers met during their studies and founded their studio in 2013. Since the beginning the duo has been working on designs in the field of furniture, tableware, lighting and accessories.
In GECKELER MICHELS’ style matrix German design roots are combined with an undogmatic and eclectic approach to the many aesthetic discourses of present time. A focus on cutting-edge concepts and a passion for material and technology can be stated as the main impulses for creating accurate and subtle products.
